GIS Workshop
Madhura Niphadkar from ATREE conducted a basics workshop on GIS on the May 5th and 6th of may 2014 for a batch of 7 researchers and field conservationists at the Mhadei Research Center.
This was the second in a series of professional workshops that are being selectively conducted by MRC for capacity building of the team, the first being on ‘How to use a hand held GPS system’.
The field cum theory workshop included basic GIS using QGIS (covers the software and some concepts of theoretical GIS), converting GPS records to useful data, using Google Earth for our needs, a primer on Indian toposheets and data sources, and some basic aspects of remote sensing imagery.
Intense discussions and ‘how to read and compile data’ sessions amidst a beautiful setting and some much needed rain showers were highlights of the two day workshop.
The workshop was supported by Mhadei Research Center, Herpactive and Wildernest Nature Resort.
